TWENTY letters from Major-General C[harles] G[eorge] Gordon to Richard Spiers Standen, of Standen and Co., tailors; Gondokoro, 16 Apr. 1874-Cape Colony, 25 Aug. 1882. The correspondence, all save the last letter, belongs to the period of Gordon's governorship in the Equatorial Provinces and the Sudan, and consists partly of business instructions and partly of accounts of his activities. Some of the letters are illustrated with thumb-nail sketches. Not mentioned in J. M. Bulloch's bibliography (Aberdeen University Studies, no. 94, 1924, pp. 129-175), but occasional pencilled brackets, and the pencil note "Print verbatim" on f. 7, point to publication.
